Our Story
In 2008, a group of passionate Montessori educators across Asia recognized the need for a collaborative platform to exchange ideas and experiences related to Montessori philosophy and teaching methods.
Inspired by the diverse cultural, economic, and familial landscapes of the Asian region, these educators organized periodic symposiums and conferences. As the community thrived and expanded, a collective vision for a more organized and formalized structure emerged.
After successfully hosting ten conferences in various Asian countries, the decision was made to establish the Asia Montessori Association officially.
About the Association
The Asia Montessori Association (AMA) is a growing community of educators, school leaders, parents, and advocates committed to child-centred, research-informed education across Asia.
Founded in 2008 by pioneering Montessori educators, AMA grew from small gatherings into a regional network for collaboration and professional learning. In 2024, AMA was incorporated in Singapore as a public company limited by guarantee, establishing a formal foundation for its continued development.
Inspired by Dr. Maria Montessori’s Scientific Pedagogy, AMA welcomes all educational approaches that respect children as active, capable learners. Through international conferences, training, research, and exchange programmes, we connect people across cultures to share knowledge and strengthen practice.
Rooted in Asian cultures, our mission is to follow the child, to know, to love, and to serve—preparing not only the child for life, but life for the child.
