Our Story

In 2008, a group of passionate Montessori educators across Asia recognized the need for a collaborative platform to exchange ideas and experiences related to Montessori philosophy and teaching methods.

Inspired by the diverse cultural, economic, and familial landscapes of the Asian region, these educators organized periodic symposiums and conferences. As the community thrived and expanded, a collective vision for a more organized and formalized structure emerged.

After successfully hosting ten conferences in various Asian countries, the decision was made to establish the Asia Montessori Association officially.

About the Association

The Asia Montessori Association (AMA) is a growing community of educators, school leaders, parents, and advocates dedicated to transforming education across Asia through child-centred and research-informed practice.

Founded in 2008 by a group of pioneering Montessori educators, AMA began as a platform for collaboration and dialogue. What started as small gatherings of like-minded teachers soon evolved into a regional movement uniting schools and educators who share a common belief: that true education begins with respect for the child and a deep understanding of human development.

Although inspired by Dr. Maria Montessori’s Scientific Pedagogy, AMA celebrates all educational approaches that honour the child as an active, capable learner. We welcome educators of every background who value independence, curiosity, and peace through education. Our doors are open to teachers, parents, leaders, and policy-makers who seek to learn and grow together in service of children.

Today, AMA serves as a regional bridge for collaboration across Asia. Through international conferences, professional training, research, and exchange programmes, AMA connects educators and institutions across cultural and linguistic boundaries. Our mission is to follow the child, to know, to love, and to serve, and to build a culture of excellence that uplifts both the educator and the child.

Rooted in Asian culture and united by purpose, AMA continues to guide a shared vision of harmony, respect, and renewal in education. It is a place where tradition meets innovation and where educators are inspired to prepare not only the child for life, but life for the child.

Together, we are reimagining education for Asia’s children with wisdom from the past, dedication in the present, and hope for the future.
