尊敬する同僚の皆様、学識ある友人の皆様へ、
2年前、我々は戦車が動き出し、難民が混乱して逃げるのを目撃しました。去る10月、建物が崩壊し、子どもたちが衝撃で叫びました。戦争は私たちの目の前で起こっています！その流血や叫び声は遠くに感じられるかもしれませんが、注意を払う者には見えます。目を閉じて耳を傾ければ、遠くでの苦しみの叫び声と爆撃の耳障りな音を感じることができます。我々は無関心のままでいられるでしょうか？
戦争の中で恐れと苦しみに満ちた子どもたちを見ることは、私にとって痛みと無力感で満ちています。私ができることは、この慈悲を教育的な行動に変えて、子どもたちが戦争の不正義と平和の重要性を理解する手助けをすることです。
モンテッソーリはかつて、「戦争を防ぐことは政治の仕事であり、平和を確立することは教育の仕事です。」と述べました。子どもたちの質問にどう答えるのでしょうか：なぜ戦わなければならないのか？なぜ殺さなければならないのか？どうやって子どもたちに戦争が残酷で、略奪や殺人が間違っており、許されないことを理解させるのでしょうか？
子どもたちの価値観は、成長期に形成されます。彼らは私たちが自分自身や他人をどのように扱うかを観察し、静かに私たちの行動を吸収します。彼らはなぜ私たちが事を行うのかを尋ねません。彼らはメッセージを吸収します：これが行われる方法です。
2023年末に、私は2024年のテーマとして平和教育を選ぶことを決めました — 不対立の美徳を提唱します。共感はすべての人に内在し、特に子どもたちにはあります。成人として、まず私たちは平和を理解し、自分自身や他人との平和を維持する方法を学び、紛争を解決し、幼稚園で平和なスキルや方法を使って他者とのやり取りを学ぶことが重要です。
今年の10月に開催される第10回アジアモンテッソーリ会議では、アジア全域から幼児教育者や専門家を集め、平和を促進する具体的な行動を探ることになります。会議では、実践的な行動による平和な環境の構築、非暴力的な相互作用方法の学習、子どもたちの自助精神と協力精神の育成、相互尊重、そしてグローバル市民意識の醸成についての議論が含まれ、より平和な世界の構築を目指します。
